Diary Of An Adventure Filmmaker: A Tale Of Two Rivers First Ever Private Screening – The Debrief

Last weekend saw the first ever private screening of The Last Explorers and Karun. A theatreful of Kickstarter backers joined us for the evening to enjoy the fruits of our labours, and to offer feedback and suggestions for improvements before the films are finalised.

The event was a resounding success, and Leon and I would like to thank the many kind souls who helped us make it happen – especially our amazing event producer Hayley, Beccy at Half Moon Theatre, and musician Arash Moradi who surprised everyone with a live performance of traditional Iranian music in the interval.

It wasn’t just a fun night of adventure. The evening was also really useful from a creative perspective.

The general feedback we received on both films was unanimously positive – a huge relief, given that we were still in the editing suite at 8pm the previous night, having lost all perspective on whether the films were any good or not.

And the specific feedback on the final draft of The Last Explorers was far more constructive and thoughtful than we’d hoped for.

Here’s a newly released teaser for this film:

The next steps in this project are threefold:

  • The first job is to make the final tweaks to The Last Explorers, based on the feedback we received over the weekend. I’ll be back in the edit suite next week to do just that.
  • The second job is to prepare and send the remaining Kickstarter backer rewards – the DVDs and postcards that many of my readers will be eagerly waiting for. This’ll happen in November.
  • And the final job is to create a publicity strategy for the public release of Karun – a strategy that reflects the beliefs and message that the film is built upon.

Of these, the last is going to be the biggest and most challenging job – and it’s something I want to invite the whole adventure community to be part of when the time comes.

I’ll be posting again soon with more details of what we’ve got planned on that front. It’s rather exciting!

For now, though, I’m off to make the most of the late summer weather by riding my bike somewhere for a few days. I’m badly in need of a time-out, and this should be just the tonic!

  1. Looking good 🙂 I look forward to the final films. Reminds me of the Itaipu dam near where my family live in Paraguay. A huge facility that must have devastated the local area when it was built. Such a pretty area too, with the Foz do Iguaçu falls nearby. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itaipu_Dam

Enjoy your little cycling break. I’m off to do the same in the nice weather here too 🙂

    cheers Pete
